Review: Solange Knowles – A Seat At the Table.

Solange Knowles exceeded all expectations with her third full length studio album.

A Seat at The Table is a twenty-one track long sonic masterpiece that delicately, yet poignantly narrates the thrilling highs and bitter lows of contemporary black womanhood.

The 30-year-old RnB and soul singer really found her footing this time around in terms of singing, song writing and creative direction.

The album, co-produced by seasoned, soul music masters Raphael Saadiq and ?uestlove is heavily doused in 60’s futuristic funk vibes and musical nods to artists of past and present such as Herbie Hancock, Janet Jackson, Aaliyah and Minnie Riperton.

Solange’s whispery, haunting vocals are joined on occasion with features from the likes of Kelela, Lil Wayne, Kelly Rowland, Sampha and The Dream.

All the accompanying artists bring unique yet equally complimentary flavours to the table, helping to paint the vivid, beautiful and utterly unapologetic portrait of the black female.

Solange’s album is visually alluring, acoustically captivating and thematically unified.

A Seat at The Table is undoubtedly her best work yet.
